Water, Water Everywhere on the Farm too!

The dogs are enjoying the raging brook and the ducks are enjoying the parts of the farmyard that are flooded and/or muddy. The chickens and cats found drier spots though they don't like all this water everywhere! I spent a good amount of time making a path fro the dry areas in the chicken yard through the wet areas and to the coop. It's a very large fenced yard and there is plenty of dry for the chickens but near the coop-barn it is wet and muddy.

Flooded fruit trees and happy ducks.

The chickens found dry areas. KitKat and the beardies enjoyed the day.

Gardening, KitKat and Bearded Dragons

I planted a second round of mixed lettuces in this terra-cotta colored stacking planter. Nothing was started in it yet so I wanted to use the space, between the people, birds and beardies we can use plenty of greens.

I've had the larger stacking planters for a few year and more recently found little ones. I had no idea what I would use them for but thought they were cute. I planted flowers in some of them and still need to plant out the rest.

Got the beardies out when the sun came out and brought them back in before the next round of thunderstorms. They enjoy a bit of rain but I wouldn't want them out in a thunderstorm! KitKat enjoys spending a little time with his beardie friends and then has a sleep in a box -one that Rufus has been chewing up!

On The Farm 6/25 Gardens, chickens, cook-out and Happy Bearded Dragons

Planting, weeding, mulching, keeping watch on younger chicks as they integrate with the flock (all going well). A happy frog in a makeshift pond and bearded dragons soaking up some rays. Then a cook-out to end the day, veggie burgers and sausages, potatoes done in foil, a few other bits and vegan Dandies marshmallows. Yum I got the birds shut up for the night right before a thunderstorm rolled in.

Beardies and chicks

The bearded dragons were happy to hang out in a patch of violets for a bit of pick your own fun. They love eating flowers.

Little White aka R2D2 or just R2 is glad that someone is smaller than her. Not that much smaller though! The baby chicks are 5 days-almost 2 weeks and R2 is 10 weeks. She must be a very small breed of bantam.

All kinds of busy

Clearing in the woods, fruit tree maintenance, taking care of seedlings (I can not WAIT until they're outdoors, in the ground, nearly time!). We're continuing to acclimate the rescue bantams, now 7.5 weeks old, with the main flock, this involved taking the bottom out of an old dog kennel (yard sale find) so it could sit directly on the dirt for dust bathing and pecking. Getting the bearded dragons out to enjoy the sun which finally came out etc..KitKat was often around enjoying being part of the action on the farm.

A present for the bearded dragons, of course they destroy it!

I tried "planting" a couple of lettuce and greens plants with roots in the bearded dragon cage for winter. This one was a big head of lettuce to start. Of course they didn't gently munch leaves off as it continues to grow. They tore that thing out of the soil and ate the lot in a day. Totally messed up their cage too, dirt everywhere. Ah well they had fun. They get to go outside nearly every day from late spring through early fall. Winter is a bit boring for them. These beardies rarely brumate (like hibernation) since we have them in a warm room and they have an open air cage. They engage much more with their world in an open air cage than they ever did in a glass terrarium. So glad we made this switch many years ago now Saphira and Kilgharrah enjoy their lives this way.
