Around the Farm 6/3

I planted some tiny apple tree seedlings today. After visiting and orchard with many interesting and heritage apple trees I decided to save some seeds. Put them in the fridge all winter (in baggies with damp paper towels), then put them in soil today. Of course they won't grow into the same type of tree they came from, apples grown from seed won't but it could be very interesting. One of the speakers at Homesteaders of New England last fall gave a good pep talk about planting random apple seeds because you never know what you'll get! Will they even grow? I don't know I think I left them in the fridge too long but we shall see.

Honeyberries (Haskaps) are always the first fruit we can harvest here and I see some blue ones! Not quite done but close.

The Arctic Kiwi plants that were practically wiped out due to that 26 degree night a  couple weeks ago are trying again! Never seen a plant regrow like this after a freeze die off. I doubt it will fruit but it will be interesting to see.

What else? Lots more panting this weekend. Once Memorial Day arrives we can plant most anything here so it's a rush to get it all in. And of course KitKat the farm cat helps.
