Around the Farm 6/5 first fruits, broody duck

Gotta love 42 day tomato plants. While they don't get tomatoes 2 days from putting the seed in the soil they are a lot quicker than many varieties. Started indoors about 5- 6 weeks ago, planted outside 1 week ago and already flowering.

Which fruit will be first? The haskaps (honeyberries) usually win but there is this one almost red strawberry. The winner is the haskaps, I had some today that were in fact ripe. This lone strawberry needs a couple more days. More strawberries are coming just this one is currently over achieving in the ripening phase.

In the gardens last week's transplants looking good, these are just a few and asparagus is coming up nicely. Currants and gooseberries coming along.

Chickens of all sizes are doing well.

And someone has gone broody in duck land, sigh. I know it happens every year but I still get surprised. I could not find one duck at shut up time. I will have to see where she comes out from in the morning then take the eggs. The ducks don't even lay many eggs anymore, they're pretty old. It's so hard to look through all the brush for the hiding spots. I will have to trim things back this weekend. I checked some of the usual spots, under a big log, among the blackberry bushes etc. It was pretty dark and I just couldn't find her.It will be easier in the morning.

Where are you hiding a nest, duck?

Not here.
